An Nam Bamboo Lamp

Launched in 2024, AN NAM is a collection developed by designer Diệu Anh and Bát Tràng Museum Atelier (BTMA), drawing on four motifs: the rice grain, áo yếm, mấn headdress, and bamboo node.

In 2026, the collection was further developed with the An Nam Bamboo Lamp, translating the bamboo node into a ceramic table lamp.

Inspired by the phrase “khắc nhập, khắc xuất” from the Vietnamese folktale The Hundred-Knot Bamboo, the design reduces the form of a bamboo node into a ceramic module that can be flexibly joined and further developed into different structures and functions. The An Nam Bamboo Lamp uses a two-node ceramic body, combined with a base and lampshade.

The square ceramic base is paired with a circular lampshade, referencing the traditional Vietnamese concept of “round heaven, square earth”. The shade takes a simplified form derived from the Vietnamese conical hat, with its proportions adapted for the lamp. It is made from handwoven silk đũi fabric by artisan Nguyễn Đình Đại, who continues the traditional đũi weaving practice of Nam Cao, Thái Bình.
