Mấn đội đầu (Vietnamese Turban)

Created by Bát Tràng Museum Atelier (BTMA) in collaboration with designer Diệu Anh, AN NAM draws on familiar cultural forms from across East Asia. The collection reinterprets four enduring motifs — Vietnamese Turban, Vietnamese Halter Top, The Bamboo, and Rice Grain Vase — as contemporary ceramic objects, exploring them through simplified forms and material.

Mấn đội đầu is developed from the traditional Vietnamese headdress, preserving its distinctive folded form. Inspired by the sculptural language of Constantin Brâncuși, the simplified head form highlights the essence of the mấn in a contemporary sculptural composition.

Across the AN NAM collection, each design is distilled to its essential form while retaining its defining characteristics. Every piece is finished using Bát Tràng Museum Atelier’s signature layered glazing technique. Fired at 1300°C, the layered glazes develop subtle tonal variations, giving each work a distinct surface with no two pieces exactly alike.

To realise this design, the artisans at Bát Tràng Museum Atelier developed a structural solution to ensure the stability of the work. The sculpture was divided into individual sections for shaping and firing, then assembled around an internal steel support to provide the strength and stability required for display.
