From around the 2nd century BCE, agarwood travelled along ancient trade routes to the Middle East and Europe. As the appreciation of incense grew, ceramic artisans developed a wide variety of incense burners designed to preserve its fragrance within interior spaces.
The Đông Sơn Drum Incense Burner by Bát Tràng Museum Atelier (BTMA) draws inspiration from the form of the Đông Sơn bronze drum, combining a Nghê finial with finely rendered raised motifs across the ceramic surface.

The design is finished with a brass rim encircling the opening and the workshop’s signature technique of applying overlapping glaze layers, bringing the iconic drum form into a functional object for contemporary living spaces.

Alongside the development of new designs, Bát Tràng Museum Atelier (BTMA) continues to produce works that carry the distinctive visual language of the late People’s Artisan Vũ Thắng, while preserving the techniques and surface treatment methods he developed throughout his career.
