Behind LaFleur’s Floral Installations on Bát Tràng Museum Atelier Ceramics at Osaka Expo 2025

A replica of the signature ceramic boot by the late People’s Artisan Vũ Thắng, along with color variations of the ceramic replica of AI ƠI handbag (BTMA x LUU VIETANH), were paired with wild blooms and rice stalks by LaFleur Vietnam. These site-specific arrangements were created for the Vietnam Pavilion at Expo 2025—one of the world’s three major global exhibitions—showcasing a refined harmony of traditional craft and floral artistry.

The five floral Installations on Bát Tràng Museum Atelier ceramics, crafted by LaFleur for the Vietnam Pavilion at EXPO 2025, convey messages: “Greetings (GREETINGS | 挨拶)”, “Sincere (SINCERE | 真心)”, “Caring (CARING | 配慮)”, “Hope (HOPE | 希望)”, and “Future (FUTURE | 未来)”—expressing a vision for a sustainable society where people are at the heart of all connections and creativity.

Combining the elegance of Japanese Ikebana with traditional hand-braiding techniques, their arrangements honor the raw beauty of golden rice, dried straw, and native flora on Bát Tràng ceramics.

The Ceramic Replica of AI ƠI Handbag
BÁT TRÀNG MUSEUM ATELIER x LUU VIETANH
Inspired by the festive gift baskets traditionally exchanged during Vietnamese holidays, the AI ƠI ceramic piece reimagines this familiar form through a minimalist, contemporary lens. Each design tells a story—a memory of Vietnam, reframed with quiet elegance. Now also serving as a flower vase, AI ƠI brings a new function to the form, inviting beauty and inspiration into modern living spaces.

LaFleur sees quiet meaning in every rice stalk and blade of grass—symbols deeply rooted in the agricultural heritage of Asia, where rice cultivation has shaped not just daily life but a shared cultural spirit. Combining the elegance of Japanese Ikebana with traditional hand-braiding techniques, their arrangements honor the raw beauty of golden rice, dried straw, and native flora on Bát Tràng ceramics. A tribute to nature and the local materials that have long nourished the soul of the East.

The Bat Trang Ceramic Boot
BÁT TRÀNG MUSEUM ATELIER
Originally sculpted over a decade ago by late People’s Artisan Vũ Thắng—founder of Bát Tràng Museum—the ceramic shoe reinterprets the bold silhouette of Western boots through traditional Vietnamese craftsmanship.
The motif of trailing chrysanthemums, deeply rooted in local ceramics, is delicately carved into the clay and finished with layered glazes, creating both depth and a striking modernity. The mid- and mini-sized versions, developed by BTMA, continue Vũ Thắng’s signature fusion of heritage and contemporary form—a lasting tribute to his creative legacy.

Every material chosen for LaFleur’s arrangements on Bát Tràng Museum Atelier’s signature ceramics carries meaning—graceful in form, yet rich in the quiet stories of everyday folk traditions. From offering flowers to drying rice or weaving grass, these gestures once held the hopes, vitality, and aesthetic sensibility of generations who found beauty and belief in the simplest things.
