Among the many moments captured, a pair of ceramic boots by the late People’s Artisan Vu Thang—founder of Bát Tràng Museum—stood out as a symbolic dialogue between East and West, past and present.

Each blink of the human eye lasts just 0.26 seconds—barely a fragment of spacetime. Yet across 13.7 billion years of the universe, even such fleeting instants have witnessed the birth and death of stars. The exhibition A Blink in Spacetime invited audiences to pause, reflect, and perceive life’s smallest and grandest realities through the lens of science and art.

Among the many moments captured, a pair of ceramic boots by the late People’s Artisan Vu Thang—founder of Bát Tràng Museum—stood out as a symbolic dialogue between East and West, past and present. First created 12 years ago, these sculptural pieces merge traditional Vietnamese craftsmanship with bold, contemporary form. Each boot is a unique, handcrafted ceramic piece, showcasing diverse glazes and techniques rooted in centuries-old traditions.

Bát Tràng Museum
Founded by the late People’s Artisan Vu Thang, Bát Tràng Museum is the first and only private art museum in the Bát Tràng ceramic village, officially licensed by the Hanoi People’s Committee in 2016. The museum houses an extensive personal collection of antique Bát Tràng ceramics dating from the 18th to early 20th century, alongside a rich body of original works created by the artisan over nearly five decades—many of them one-of-a-kind pieces reflecting his lifelong dedication to the Vietnamese ceramic tradition.

The late People’s Artisan Vu Thang
With nearly 50 years dedicated to the family craft, Vu Thang was renowned for his innovative spirit and deep commitment to embedding Vietnamese materials and symbols into his work. He reimagined traditional motifs—lotus flowers, carp, clouds—into multilayered ceramic expressions, using intricate engraving and overlaid glazes to create works that feel both timeless and vividly contemporary.

ICISE – International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education
Founded in 2013, ICISE aims to foster international collaboration and integration for young Vietnamese scientists and students. As a gathering place for leading scholars, the center is dedicated to advancing Vietnam’s role in the global scientific community.
