Bát Tràng Museum Atelier participates in “Từ đôi tay đến tạo tác — Crafting in Progress”

As part of the group exhibition Từ đôi tay đến tạo tác (Crafting in Progress) at Lotus Gallery, Bát Tràng Museum Atelier (BTMA) presents new interpretations of its signature works, developed in collaboration with the hand-embroidery practice of Leap Art Furniture & Decor.

The selected pieces reflect the atelier’s ongoing experimentation with glaze, form, and material, shaped within a nearly 50-year-old ceramic workshop in Bát Tràng.

BTMA works revisit cultural narratives through a renewed lens, while creating layered visual experiences through the combination of ceramics with materials such as embroidered velvet, metal, and composite.

Founded on the legacy of the late People’s Artisan Vũ Thắng, BTMA continues to explore the intersection of traditional ceramic techniques and contemporary design thinking. Its works revisit cultural narratives through a renewed lens, while creating layered visual experiences through the combination of ceramics with materials such as embroidered velvet, metal, and composite.

At the exhibition, BTMA introduces new readings of familiar forms. The generative energy of Suối Nguồn is expressed through a bespoke motif system applied on the Tulip Tower and the embroidered surfaces of the Ballerina table lamp. The Tulip lamp further opens a dialogue between the modern tulipiere ceramic base and the Blooming pattern, distilled from traditional blue-and-white ceramic ornamentation.

Bát Tràng Museum
Founded by the late People’s Artisan Vũ Thắng, Bát Tràng Museum (Bat Trang Museum of Viet Soul Art) is the only licensed private museum in Bát Tràng village, approved by the Hanoi People’s Committee in 2016. Its collection includes a wide range of historical ceramics from the 18th to early 20th centuries, alongside works created by the artisan over nearly five decades, many of which are unique pieces.
Bát Tràng Museum Atelier (BTMA)
A nearly 50-year-old ceramic workshop operating under the museum, BTMA is run by members of the artisan’s family. The atelier focuses on researching and reinterpreting the aesthetics of traditional Vietnamese ceramics — from form and glaze to decorative motifs — and translating them into contemporary design.
Leap Art
A fashion and interior brand centered on hand embroidery, LEAP ART works to reinterpret traditional embroidery within a contemporary artistic framework while preserving its cultural essence. In Vietnam, the brand positions itself not only as a label but as a lifestyle concept, promoting a refined, minimal way of living.
Lotus Gallery
Established in 1991, Lotus Gallery is dedicated to bringing Vietnamese art closer to an international audience.

Từ đôi tay đến tạo tác (Crafting in Progress) unfolds as a journey through “miniature craft villages.” Featuring over 80 works alongside a series of in-depth workshops, Lotus Gallery creates a space for dialogue between artisans and audiences. The exhibition highlights not only the material qualities of ceramics, lacquer, enamel, and wood, but also the continuity of craft practices within a contemporary creative context.
