THE MANSION

The riverside village of Đông Ngạc, through the highs and lows of the ages, still retains much of its classical architecture signature of the Northern countryside. Of the houses found here, standing out is a hundred-year-old mansion, with its beauty intact after having been recently reconstructed and renovated by a team of dedicated Italian architects.

This ‘Đông Ngạc Mansion’ was the shooting place for the fashion story of Đẹp Magazine’s September issue. Photographed by Thai Pham, the fashion story features the twin models of Thuỳ Linh – Minh Ánh, alongside the special presence of Bát Tràng Museum Atelier’s Moon Gazing Carp and the ‘Ai Ơi’ Handbag’s Ceramic Vase Replica.

The ‘Ai Ơi’ Handbag’s Ceramic Vase Replica

Inspired by the gift giving custom typical of the festive Vietnamese gatherings, this ceramic replica of the ‘AI ƠI’ handbag (O Dearly Beloved) by COCOSIN | LUU VIETANH is a token of appreciation dedicated to the country’s longstanding tradition of courtesy and hospitality, reinterpreted as a flower-holder by BÁT TRÀNG MUSEUM ATELIER.

The Moon-Gazing Carp

In Eastern culture, Vietnam’s most specifically, the carp is generally considered an animal symbolic of perseverance, prosperity and good fortune. Created with elegantly flowing forms and gracefully fluid curves, this pair of Moon Gazing Carp are prized creations of Bát Tràng Museum Atelier (BTMA), modeled after the late Vũ Thắng’s ceramic carp – the artworks that won the Hanoi City Handicraft Product Design Contest in 2014.

In ceramics coupled with velvet silk, combined are the beauty of traditions and refined craftsmanship. These constrastive qualities of these two unlikely materials – sturdy and fluid – are symbolic of the two sides of a woman: tender, yet resilient.

The Mansion of Đông Ngạc

In the restoration of the mansion, the Italian architects behind this operation worked hard to preserve the manor’s signature timelessness, including the courtyard, the garden and most of the living spaces. At the same time, the mansion’s base design was renewed, complimented with various contemporary elements in its every nook and cranny. As a result of this, the mansion became a place where tradition and modern artistry meet, in which the newest fashion story of Đẹp Magazine was set.
